The New School Continuing Education

Continuing Education

The New School was a pioneer of lifelong learning at its founding in 1919, and it continues to offer an array of courses for personal and career development. The founding division of the university, now called The New School for Public Engagement (NSPE), offers adult learners a variety of opportunities for intellectual inquiry, creative exploration, and professional growth. A dedicated faculty of scholars and professionals lead courses in Social Sciences, Humanities, Media Studies and Film, Writing, Foreign Languages, English Language Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Management and Business, and Food Studies.

The NSPE continuing education program offers students a variety of options:  

  • Courses online and on campus in Greenwich Village, Manhattan
  • Noncredit and credit options
  • Evening and weekend classes
  • Certificates in Creative Arts and Health, English as a Second Language, Film Production, Screenwriting, and English Language Teaching
  • Summer Writers Colony

Intensive Courses for Professional Development
Intensive courses, including the ones listed below, offer busy professionals training for career advancement training in one to four sessions.

Continuing education courses are also offered by Parsons The New School for Design (in art, design, and architecture) and by Mannes College The New School for Music (in performance, theory, and composition).
