With some exceptions in areas of spelling and pronunciation, Korean is the official and primary language of two Koreas (both South and North) and Yanbian in the People's Republic of China. Today, there are about 80 million Korean speakers worldwide.
Korean is rapidly positioning itself as one of the most practical and influential Asian languages—the demand for Korean speakers continues to grow, as the country becomes one of Asia's centers for high-tech industries, interregional politics, and popular culture.
The New School offers a selection of courses in Korean each year. Introductory courses focus on the spoken language, developing basic conversational skills while touching on aspects of Korean popular culture and tradition.
