As indicated in our application materials overview, non-U.S citizens must also submit the following materials to complete their applications:
TOEFL Requirement
Because theater is a language-intensive art form, it is crucial that students who apply to The New School for Drama have excellent English skills to obtain the most from their training. All international citizens are required to provide their TOEFL scores (Test of English As a Foreign Language) to be considered for admission. Find information about taking the TOEFL at www.ets.org/toefl. A score of 600 or above on the paper-based test, 250 or above on the computer-based test, or 100 or above on the internet-based test is required for admission. The New School for Drama's TOEFL code is 2385.
TOEFL Exemption
The only international applicants who are exempt from this requirement are citizens of nations where the official language is English and whose first or native language is English. If you meet these requirements, please answer "yes" to the application question regarding TOEFL exemptions; all other applicants should answer "no" to the question.
Certified English translations of all school credentials not in English.
All applicants with international transcripts are required to submit an original transcript from each institution they attended outside the United States, along with a certified English language translation. Applicants who would like to transfer academic credits earned at non-U.S. institutions are also required to have their transcript(s) evaluated by World Education Services (WES) at www.wes.org, our preferred provider, or by another member of the National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES). A course-by-course evaluation report must be prepared for each transcript. Please begin the evaluation process as early as possible, including the submission of all required documents to WES (or another provider) to ensure the timely completion of the evaluation reports.
Instruct the provider to send the report to
The New School for Drama

If you request your report online, search for "New School Drama" when selecting our institution. If your provider is unable to send the evaluation report directly to the school, please obtain the report and send it to The New School for Drama along with a Materials Cover Sheet (PDF).
