New School Server Settings for POP and IMAP on Google Apps

Enable IMAP

Before you can configure your device or client for IMAP, first enable IMAP in your New School Google Apps account.

To enable IMAP in New School Google Apps:

  1.  Sign in to your account at mail.newschool.edu.  
  2.  Click the gear icon in the upper-right and select Mail Settings.  
  3.  Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.  
  4.  Select Enable IMAP.  

Once enable, configuring POP or IMAP access for your New School Google Apps email address is very similar to configuring it in Gmail. However, any time you're asked for your username during the configuration process, you'll need to enter your full email address, including the newschool domain (YourNetID@newschool.edu). All other settings are the same.

  •  IMAP server: imap.gmail.com  
  •  Port: 993  
  •  Security type: SSL (always)  

Outgoing settings

  •  SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com  
  •  Port: 465  
  •  Security type: SSL (always)  

Blackberry Devices

  • Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Username: your full New School Google Apps email address (YourNetID@newschool.edu)
  • Password: [your New School Google Apps password]
  • IMAP Port: 993

iPhone

  • Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Userame:  your full New School Google Apps email address (YourNetID@newschool.edu)
  • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com

Windows Mobile Devices

  • Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Account Type: IMAP4
  • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Require SSL: Check box to require.
  • Network Connection: The Internet

Apple Mail 3

Incoming Mail Server information:

  •  Account Type: Select IMAP  
  •  Incoming Mail Server: Change this to imap.gmail.com  
  •  User Name:  your full New School Google Apps email address (YourNetID@newschool.edu)
  •  Password: your New School Google Apps password 
      

Outgoing Mail Server information:

  •  Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com  
  •  Use Authentication: selected  
  •  User Name:  your full New School Google Apps email address (YourNetID@newschool.edu)
  •  Password: your New School Google Apps password  

Windows Mail

  •  E-mail address:  your full New School Google Apps email address (YourNetID@newschool.edu)
  •  'Outgoing Mail (SMTP)' : Enter port number '465'  
  •  'Incoming mail (IMAP)' : Enter port number '993'  

Thunderbird

Server Settings (Incoming Server):

  • Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com 
  • Port: 993
  • User Name: your full New School Google Apps email address (YourNetID@newschool.edu)

Outgoing Server SMTP

  • Server Name: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 465

Entourage

  •  IMAP server: imap.gmail.com  
  •  SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com  
  •  SMTP port: 465

Eudora

Incoming Server settings:

  • Password: Enter you New School Google Apps password
