The New School provides a secure wireless network called "newschoolnet" that is available throughout campus.

Additionally, new for Fall 2013, The Kerrey Hall housing facility, located at 65 Fifth Ave. floors 8 through 16, offers a wireless network called "newschool-housing".  This network uses 802.1x authentication for a simpler and more secure connection. All data sent over this network is encrypted.

The New School wireless networks are always available to current New School students, alumni, faculty, and staff with a valid NetID and password.

Conference or event guest wireless access can be requested by completing and submitting the required form at least 3 business days in advance. See more information on guest wireless access.

Windows Laptops

• Microsoft Windows computers should have anti-virus software installed, with up-to-date virus definitions. The New School offers the latest version of Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition as a free download
• When logging on to "newschoolnet," be sure you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer. Having multiple anti-virus programs installed may result in conflicts and prevent you from using the wireless network.
• If it is your first time logging on to "newschoolnet" and your device is running a Microsoft Windows, you will be prompted to install the Safe•Connect policy key. You will only have to install the policy key the first time you access the network.
• When you launch your browser you will be redirected to the "newschoolnet" login page. Enter your New School NetID username and password and you will be able to use the network.

Mac Laptops and Mobile Devices

• Macs and mobile devices do not need the Safe•Connect policy key. To connect to "newschoolnet" with a Mac or mobile device, make sure wireless is enabled on your laptop or other device, and launch a web browser or other web application and you will be redirected to the "newschoolnet" login page. Enter your New School NetID username and password and you will be able to use the network.

You should be able to connect to The New School’s 802.1x housing wireless network quickly and easily. When your computer or device finds "newschool-housing" on the network and presents it in your list of network choices, simply select it and log in to it, using your New School NetID and password. Under most circumstances, your computer or device will remember that choice and you shouldn’t need to select it again. See device-specific information on connecting to "newschool-housing".
