Welcome to the University Learning Center (ULC), where New School students can receive academic support in areas including writing, math (PDF), ESL, and graduate writing. The ULC also holds regular workshops aimed at improving students' writing and other academic skills.

Our writing sessions support development through constructive feedback and technical guidance, designed to help students clarify their ideas and evaluate their work. The ULC is not a proofreading or editing service; rather, our tutors work with students to identify areas that need improvement and offer advice about making adjustments.

Explore our website to see all that the ULC has to offer, or better yet, drop in for a tour. The ULC is located at 71 Fifth Avenue (between 14th and 15th Streets) on the 9th floor. There is also a midtown (PDF) annex at 232 West 40th Street, room 1207, open during the fall and spring semesters.

New ULC scheduler Instructions:

Step 1: Log in to Starfish CONNECT™.

Step 2: Click "Success Network," located at the top of the screen.

Step 3: You will see a list of offices; ULC listings appear on the second and third pages.

Step 4: Choose the service that best suits your needs: ESL, General Tutoring, Graduate Writing, Math, or Midtown location. Please note: Only MA and PhD students may book sessions with Graduate Writing tutors.

Step 5: If you wish to work with a specific tutor, choose the "Schedule Online" button next to his or her name. If you simply wish to schedule an appointment at a particular time, use the "Schedule Online" link that appears next to the description of the service.

Step 6: Choose the day and time that works best for you. Click "Sign Up" to complete your reservation and book your appointment.

Please note that you can have only one appointment on the scheduler at a time. Once your session ends, you can then schedule another appointment. This policy is in place to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to book appointments with us.
