Mannes students who study composition enjoy all benefits of attending a small, collegial conservatory and may also participate in:
- Composition forums featuring discussions about new concerts, presentations by guest composers, and other topics of interest
- Concerts showcasing works composed by students and faculty, which take place throughout the year, including a concert given by the Mannes Orchestra
- Opportunities to receive recognition for their work such as the Composer-in-Residence Chamber Ensemble awards which commission to two students whose work is performed at the New Music Festival; the Bohuslav Martinu composition award for excellence in orchestral scoring; and the Jean Schneider Goberman prize, which awards cash and a Weill Recital Hall debut to a student composer
