Printing and Duplicating

The Duplicating/Printing department is located on the lower level of 55 West 13th Street. We are open 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and our telephone number is 212-229-5301 or 5302. Our staff is available to provide assistance and information not covered in this publication.

This manual will familiarize you with the services our department offers. Our goal is to produce the product you want in the most economical, professional and expedient manner.

Procedures and Pricing

It is best to determine the color and format of the design while you are in the planning stages. You should have an idea of the quantity and delivery deadline. If you are unsure of what we can produce, please contact us at 212-229-5301 or 5302.

The Duplicating/Printing department utilizes a charge-back system. The price structure does not include ancillary services (folding, cutting, off-line stapling, binding, etc.). Please note two-sided documents count as two copies. There additional charges for special order paper and metal plates. A price list is available at the end of this manual, but if you need more information, please contact us.

Mailing Services

The mailing services provided by our department go hand-in-hand with many of the printed projects we work on. There are many different classifications and rates of mail. While this manual does not provide detailed information on mailings, you may need to know more about how to design your mail piece for the lowest automation rates, or how to distribute your piece once it is printed. Please refer to the Mail Services section of this website.

Duplicating Request Form

All duplicating materials must be submitted with a Duplicating Request Form (click here to download form), which is available from the Supply Room. Duplicating requests must have an authorized signature, budget number, delivery location, and telephone number. You may also include any additional instructions and/or a "sample" for the operator to follow. Please call us before submitting your work if you need assistance specifying your duplicating instructions.

Use one requisition for each job and retain the pink copy for your records. Requests with the proper information will be returned.

Turnaround Time

The guidelines listed below are approximate, but they should help you when planning projects. Our ability to turn jobs around in a timely manner depends on a number of factors including the "health" of our equipment and the constantly varying volume of work. Following the procedures in this manual is the best way to ensure that your job will be completed by the deadline.

General Description of Services

High Speed Duplication

Originals can be as large as 11"x 17" (which can be reduced down to 64%), but the maximum copy size output on the Kodak Duplicating machines is 8 1/2" x 14". In addition we can provide sorting, collating, chapterization and back-to-back copying (duplex) of all jobs. This is particularly helpful and economical with large documents.

Offset Printing

We offer offset printing for large quantities, two color jobs and NCR forms. This process requires either a silver or metal plate. Silver plates would be appropriate for simple one or two color jobs. Metal plates are used for more complex two color jobs. Please contact us for advice about which plate you may need.

The maximum outputted size on the press is 11"x 17", and in unlimited quantities. A wide range of color inks are available, so please contact us for the color guide.

NCR (carbonless) paper is available for printing forms. The maximum size is 8 1/2x 14" and are available with two to five parts.
