In Parsons' Design and Technology bachelor's degree program, you'll undertake an in-depth investigation of visual design as it applies to interaction—from layout to typography to color—and learn to create work with impact. You'll look at why some designs work on paper but not on the screen (and vice versa) and how format, resolution, and platform contribute to successful design. Interaction design is closely related to game design and creative technologies. Many undergraduate students who focus on interaction design develop complex Web or mobile projects for businesses, nonprofits, or art applications.
Your exploration doesn't stop with the visual. You'll learn about choosing appropriate technologies. You'll also learn the back end, from CSS to databases to motion. You'll work on various platforms including laptops, TV, iPhones, Androids, and iPads.
Some interaction design students like to code. Others don't. If you don't, Parsons will pair you with students who do. Before long, you'll be producing interactive designs that will amaze you.
Parsons partners with companies and organizations like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Nokia, Sony, and TAG Heuer. Many students work on interactive projects with organizations like NASA, the United Nations, the Red Cross, and the U.S. government. Of course, your project doesn't end when you present your design—that's just the beginning. You've got to implement it, and that means testing it in the real world on real people. At Parsons, you'll learn about user-centered design, user testing, and other means of improving the user experience.
