Parsons Summer Intensive Studies welcomes students from around the world and values a culturally diverse student body as well as the unique talent and perspective that each student brings to the program.

Language Requirements

Students whose first language is not English must provide a TOEFL score (Test of English as a Foreign Language) when they register. The minimum score for admission is 550 on the written test or 79 on the Internet-based test. Go to the TOEFL website for information about where and how to take the examination. At the discretion of Parsons, the TOEFL requirement may be waived if a prospective student provides other equivalent documentation of English language proficiency.

registration deadlines and Visas

Parsons The New School for Design is authorized by law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. Registered international students receive information about applying for an I-20 student visa to enter the United States at the same time as their registration letter of confirmation. It is advisable to act quickly and work closely with our office of  International Student Services to complete the visa process as this can take time.

To be sure of obtaining a U.S. visa in time, international students must register by

  • March 15 for Summer Intensive Studies: New York Session I
  • April 1 for Summer Intensive Studies: New York Session II, Summer Studies in Constructed Environments, and Summer Intensive Studies: Paris*

Once registered, students coming to New York City should submit their I-20 applications to the U.S. government representative in their home countries by:

  • April 1 for Summer Intensive Studies: New York Session I
  • April 15 for Summer Intensive Studies: New York Session II and Summer Studies in Constructed Environments

*U.S. citizens visiting France for fewer than three months are not required to obtain a visa. However, citizens of countries other than the U.S. and the member states of the European Union are responsible for obtaining appropriate visas to study in France.
