Degree Requirements

  • Through a shared core curriculum with Parsons The New School for Design and Eugene Lang College, Urban Studies blends liberal arts with studio design courses and civic engagement partnerships with community-based and local government organizations. Students investigate the social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental implications of city life in the 21st century.

    Students can pursue a BA or BS in Urban Studies. Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. Courses should be chosen carefully in consultation with an advisor. Students must receive grades of C or above in all courses taken to fulfill the major requirement.

    The BA/BS degree in Urban Studies requires the completion of 120 credits, including the below requirements.

    Guided Area of Study

    Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts may not elect an academic minor. However, they may pursue a guided area of study in Urban Studies. Students interested in this option should consult with their advisor and the chair of the Urban Studies program before selecting coursework.
