Brian McCormick

Brian McCormick is an arts activist, writer, educator, and Producing Director of Nicholas Leichter Dance. He received a Mayor's Volunteer Service Award and was nominated for a President's Volunteer Action Award for coordinating a writing workshop with homeless youth. He is a long-time contributing editor to Gay City News, where while serving as Arts Editor he earned the paper a New York Press Associationaward. As a writer, he has contributed to The New York Times, The Advocate, Movement Research Journal, Dance Magazine, and BAMbill, and from 2010-2012 he was a guest curator on technology resources for the National Performing Arts Convention. Since 2003 he has taught for the nationally recognized youth program TRaC—Teen Reviewers and Critics—at Arts Connection/High 5 Tickets to the Arts, teaching critical engagement with art across multiple disciplines. He has worked as a teaching artist with a variety of arts education programs, including Scholastic Arts, The Rubin Museum, and Frank Sinatra School of the Arts. In fall of 2012 he will launch the new BAC After School Critical Response program at Baryshnikov Arts Center, for juniors and seniors from under-served Brooklyn high schools interested in learning, experiencing, and responding to live performance through oral, written, and media/remix dialogues. Brian has been a panelist, moderator, guest curator, or adjudicator for Theater Communications Group, New York Foundation for the Arts, Joyce Theater Foundation, Brooklyn Arts Council, The Field, Kinetic Cinema, LMCC, The Ailey Certificate School, 651 Arts, Movement Research, The A.W.A.R.D. Show, CMJ Music Marathon, and Queer Art Impact, as well as BETA and Mixed Messages at The New School. He served on the New York Dance and Performance Awards (Bessies) committee from 2002-2012. @bmacmedia.
