The Certificate in Film Production is
awarded for completion of a minimum of eight approved courses, including
a sequence of four production courses (using 16mm film and/or digital
media) leading to completion of a film project. The production
sequence is supported by classes in which students explore technical
and aesthetic aspects of motion picture production and a range of
cinematic practices, including directing, cinematography, screenwriting,
acting, and producing.
The certificate curriculum offers two
tracks. The short track combines six core courses and two electives and
can be completed in four semesters of part-time study. The second track
combines six core courses and six electives and can also be completed in
four semesters as a full-time course load. The second track is required
for students attending on an international student visa, who must
enroll full-time as a condition of the visa, but it is recommended for
all students, whether studying full-time or part-time. The following six
courses must be taken either sequentially or concurrently, as indicated.
Two elective courses complete the
certificate curriculum. Electives can be taken at any time during course
of study. The following elective courses are recommended; however,
students can choose from other film courses offered each semester.
Early registration is strongly advised. Enrollment is strictly limited to maintain the quality of our courses.
The certificate curriculum may be taken
for credit or on a noncredit basis. Minimum grades of B (or Approved-AP
for noncredit students) must be received for all courses taken to
fulfill certificate requirements.
Taking Individual Courses
All film production courses
are open for individual undergraduate credit or noncredit registration.
Students are not required to be enrolled in the certificate program to register. Not all the film production courses offered are approved for

*Students needing an accelerated course of study may alternatively take Digital Editing: Fundamentals concurrently with Film 3 or 4.
