Jennifer Michael Hecht
Jennifer Michael Hecht is a
poet, philosopher, and historian. Her latest book is The Happiness Myth (Harper One, 2007), and her previous history and
philosophy books include the bestseller Doubt:
A History (HarperCollins, 2003), and The
End of the Soul (Columbia University, 2003), which won the Phi
Beta Kappa Society's 2004 Ralph Waldo
Emerson Award “for scholarly studies that contribute significantly to
interpretations of the intellectual and cultural condition of humanity.” Hecht's most recent poetry book, Funny, won the University of Wisconsin's
2005 Felix Pollak Prize, and Publisher's Weekly called it "one of the most
original and entertaining books of the year." Her first poetry book, The Next Ancient World won the Poetry Society of America's 2002
First Book Award. Hecht's book reviews
and poetry appear in The New York Times,
The New Yorker, The New
Republic, American Poet,
and The Washington Post. She earned her Ph.D. in the History of
Science from Columbia
University in 1995.
