In 1943, The New School became a pioneer in veterans'
education when it launched a program to serve men and women returning from World War II. Since then The New School has continued to support our
servicemen and women by creating a progressive, open atmosphere in which
experience is valued as the substance of learning.
Located in New York City's Greenwich Village, The New School is a private, not-for-profit university, accredited by the New York
State Board of Regents and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and
Schools.
The New School's Offices of Admission and Student Financial
Services are here to help in your transition to civilian life and higher

towards a degree at The New School. Once you are ready, check out the Utilizing Your Military Benefits page for step-by-step guidelines
in moving forward.
Post-9/11 GI Bill
This law established a program at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to
provide benefits for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. The
program provides benefits based on a proportional
calculation of 36 months of duty for up to four academic years' worth of annual
assistance. As of the 2013-2014 academic year, the maximum total annual award
is $19,198.31.
There are also provisions for a monthly housing allowance equal to the E-5 basic
allowance for housing with dependents (based on college ZIP code) and a yearly
stipend of $1,000 for books and equipment. For those enrolled solely in
distance/online learning, the housing allowance payable is equal to half the
national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents ($684.00 for the 2012-2013
academic year).
For more information, visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website.
Yellow Ribbon Education Enhancement Program
The New School will participate in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs'
new GI program. By enrolling in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement
Program and providing additional scholarships matched under the government
program, the university will be able to offer full tuition benefits to 20
qualifying veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty
The Montgomery GI Bill program provides up to 36 months of education benefits
payable for 10 years following release from active duty. This benefit may be
