    Welcome to The New School. As a student, scholar, or exchange visitor you are joining a diverse and thriving community of academics and artists in one of the world's greatest cities. ISS recognizes the important contribution internationals make to our community, and our staff is dedicated to supporting your endeavors. To ensure your success at The New School, we provide immigration advice and cultural support in a welcoming and friendly environment. While we aim to be a home away from home, we also help you meet the challenge of stepping outside the boundaries of the things you already know or believe to face a whole new world of possibility through interaction with American students and other members of the community. We look forward to meeting you.

    To talk to the Senior Director, please come to open hours on Wednesdays, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for you to meet with the Senior Director to share any ideas or feedback that you have about our services or any issues that you feel impact international students at The New School. While she can't promise to solve every problem, she will certainly do her best to address the issues within our current resources. Please be aware that these appointments are not intended to handle cases that are already addressed through ISS advising or other workshops and forums. Complete the feedback form and an email will be sent confirming your appointment time.

    ISS Mission

    International Student Services seeks to foster a high level of international education exchange and to enhance the intellectual, artistic, cultural, and social development of students, scholars, exchange visitors, faculty, and administrative staff in a welcoming environment as part of the wider mission of Student Services and the university.

    We aim to achieve this by

    • Providing expertise and support throughout the U.S. visa application process and offering advisement on the maintenance of U.S. legal status, employment, reinstatement, change of status, program changes, and other immigration-related matters.
    • Advising incoming students and scholars on U.S. higher education systems and cultural adjustment issues, and supporting U.S. students seeking new lands to explore through Fulbright study abroad programs.
    • Promoting excellent international programming within the university and vibrant New York City, and using global resources to work towards internationalization.

    The New School's International Demographics

    Located in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City, The New School hosts more than 2,000 international students, researchers, and scholars from 101 countries. Most of the school's international students and scholars engage in practical or academic training that builds a solid foundation for community and career development. According to the Institute of International Education, The New School ranks as one of the top six New York City schools with international student enrollment; International students represent approximately 20 percent of the student population.

    The top countries of origin represented on campus are South Korea, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, India, Turkey, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, Mexico, China, and Brazil. Parsons The New School for Design is host to the largest number of international students and scholars—more than 1,000 students. At Mannes, nearly 41 percent of the students enrolled are international.

    A significant number of undergraduate and graduate students matriculated at The New School. In fall 2007, 6,068 students were candidates for undergraduate degrees and 3,322 students were candidates for graduate degrees.
