    Sheila Johnson Design Center

Congratulations on your admission to The New School! Welcome to our extraordinary university community of passionate students, faculty, and staff.

You can use the links to the left to learn more about New Student Orientation and registering for classes.

Note: If you have not yet deposited, please visit the Accepted Student tab in MyNewSchool before continuing.

Check your New School email account

All new students who have submitted a tuition deposit will be assigned a New School email account within five business days. You can access your New School email account by logging in to MyNewSchool and clicking on the Gmail icon located at the top right of the page. It is important that you check your New School email account regularly as all official university email communications will only be sent to this address.

    Apply for university housing

Review rates and apply online for student housing at the Student Housing and Residence Life website. Priority deadlines are July 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. After the priority deadline has passed, campus housing cannot be guaranteed but is assigned as available. Note: Housing applications cannot be processed until both tuition and housing deposits have been received. If you have any questions, contact the Office of Student Housing at 212.229.5459 or email myhome@newschool.edu.

    Submit your final transcript

Before you arrive on campus, arrange for your final academic transcript to be forwarded to The New School. If you recently graduated, it is likely that the transcript you submitted during the application process is not a final version that includes your graduation date. To finalize your admission to The New School, use the form included in your admission package to request a final transcript (including your graduation date) to be sent to the Office of Admission.

Complete and return the immunization form

All degree-seeking students, including international students, are required to provide proof of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, and meningococcal disease. Download the immunization form on the Student Health Services website and carefully read the instructions. Submit the completed form and required documentation by fax, email, or mail, and verify that you have read the material distributed by The New School about meningococcal disease. For more information, visit the Student Health Services website.

Register for Welcome Weekend for Freshman and their Parents

All first-time freshman are encouraged to attend Welcome Weekend for Freshman and their Parents, August 15-18, 2013. Please register for Welcome Weekend no later than August 2, 2013, by submitting the online form. Please note that the Welcome Weekend schedule will be available after July 15, 2013.

Submit your photo for your NEWcard

As a member of the New School community, you are required to obtain a NEWcard, your official university ID card. It functions as your key to campus facilities and student services. Your NEWcard must be presented for building access, library lending, and meal plan purchases.

As a new incoming student, you need to submit–in advance of arriving on campus–a color photo online to be used to create your NEWcard. For more information, visit the NEWcard website

Sign up for the Dining Dollars meal plan

A variety of meal plans are offered to all matriculated students. If you enroll in a meal plan, you can present your ID card at campus dining facilities for meals, snacks, and convenience items. Students living in certain residence halls are required to enroll in the meal plan. Please review your housing application for more information.

Review the information about mandatory student health insurance and the waiver option

All students are automatically enrolled in Student Health Services and the student health insurance plan provided for The New School by University Health Plans. The insurance premium is charged at registration unless you are eligible to waive coverage. If you are covered by equivalent medical insurance, you can waive your New School coverage by submitting the online Student Health Waiver Form. For more information, visit Student Health Services.

    Request disability accommodations (if applicable)

Students interested in requesting disability accommodations must submit the online self-identification form. For more information, visit Student Disability Services

Check the status of your financial aid award letter

All new students who have submitted a tuition deposit should already have completed the financial aid process. If you have not yet applied for aid, visit Student Financial Services for information and instructions.

If you are eligible for financial aid (or scholarships) and have a completed application on file, you can check the status online by logging in to MyNewSchool and accessing your financial aid information in the Student Financial Services section.

If you are an international undergraduate or graduate student, learn more about funding options by visiting Student Financial Services.

If you have not yet deposited, please visit the Accepted Student tab in MyNewSchool before continuing.

    International Students

Return the required International Student Services forms as soon as possible.

International students who need the I-20 or DS-2019 form to obtain a visa will receive a link to the online International Student Application Packet in their acceptance letters or they may access the link via the Accepted Student tab in MyNewSchool. This web page includes information about applying for the I-20 or DS-2019, guidelines for providing financial documents, instructions and procedures for F-1 transfer students, and other important forms and information. Complete the mandatory online tutorials

All new students are required to complete the online tutorial on the University Policy on Sexual Harassment. Students who do not complete the tutorial or the orientation may be contacted by the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. For more information, visit the Rights and Responsibilities website.

All new students receiving financial aid in the form of federal government-supported student loans must complete an online tutorial at www.studentloans.gov.

    Complete the emergency contact form

All new students must provide emergency contact information. To update your emergency contact information, log in to MyNewschool and select the Student tab where you will find a link to "Update Your Emergency Contact Information" in the Self Service/Alvin channel. The university may use the contact information you provide in case of an emergency. If this information changes, please return to MyNewSchool to update it.
