Graduation Requirements
To receive an undergraduate degree, a student must have have completed all published academic requirements with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
To receive a graduate degree, a student must have completed all published academic requirements and with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. (Note: a cumulative GPA higher than 3.0 is required by some doctoral programs.)
Degree Completion Term Limits
Students in a master's degree program must complete all degree requirements within 5 years. For a PhD, the time limit is 8 years at the Milano School and 10 years at The New School for Social Research (except the clinical psychology PhD, for which the limit is 12 years). Beyond these limits, students are not permitted to register unless they have asked for and obtained an extension.
Extensions of the time limit may be granted based on a petition submitted by the student and assessed by the student's department. The petition must review the degree requirements completed to date and include a specific plan for completing the outstanding work. If the extension of time is not granted, the student will be dismissed from the program.
Graduation Honors
Undergraduates who have completed at least 60 credits in residence for a bachelor's degree or 34 credits in residence for an associate's degree and who have a 3.7 cumulative GPA will graduate with honors, which will be noted on their diplomas and transcripts. At Parsons The New School for Design and Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, departmental honors are also noted on all diplomas and transcripts.
