Undergraduate

The New School provides a generous program of scholarships and fellowships to degree students based on need, merit, or a combination of the two. These funds, ranging from several hundred dollars to full-tuition, do not require repayment and are primarily scholarships applied towards your tuition costs. To be considered for institutional scholarships, undergraduate students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the stated deadline each year, or the Undergraduate International Student Scholarship Application upon admission to the university. 

Graduate

Graduate students are not required to complete a scholarship application in order to be considered for scholarship funding. Need-based scholarships may be reduced or canceled if all requested applications and verification documents are not received by the stated deadlines, and may be reduced in subsequent aid years if subsidized student loan offers are declined. Generally, verification documents must be completed and submitted to the Office of Student Financial Assistance within thirty days of the request.

Undergraduate students are given awards based upon the data contained in the application (FAFSA or Undergraduate International Scholarship Application) and admission credentials. Graduate students are automatically considered for scholarship funds upon entry into the university. Scholarship recipients are notified of their award by either their program or a Student Financial Services award letter soon after being admitted. Note that need-based scholarships do not automatically renew for the same amount in subsequent years. Changes in need calculations, late FAFSA submissions, or refusal of a subsidized student loan may impact your renewal eligibility.

External Funding

Despite the availability of New School scholarship funding, it is highly recommended that all students pursue scholarship funding available from different agencies or organizations outside of the university. While it is a student's responsibility to find scholarships offered outside of the university, Student Financial Services offers tools to help in the search for scholarships.

Keep in mind that the quest for external funding is time-consuming. The most important thing to remember about scholarship and fellowship searches is to start early, as application deadlines may be established several months to a year in advance of award disbursal.
