Sir Edward F. West, 1782-1828.

Oxford-educated barrister and later a judge in India. In 1815, discovered the law of diminishing returns to land cultivation and the theory of differential rent (independently but simultaneously with Malthus, Ricardo and Torrens).  In later years, he became a more-or-less orthodox Ricardian.  His 1826 tract criticized the nascent "wages fund" doctrine.
